Max Weber Program
The Max Weber Program at the European University Institute offers a Teaching Certificate. I am currently completing this program, which includes workshops on course design, lecturing, leading seminars, and teaching in multicultural and multilingual settings. As part of this program, I also traveled to the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) for a week of teaching practice and training. This program has been especially useful in thinking about teaching classes with diverse national backgrounds. I have received feedback from teaching experts on my course plans and my classroom execution, helping me to continually re-evaluate my teaching strategies.
The McGraw Center for Teaching & Learning at Princeton offers extensive training in the art of teaching. Working with the Center, I am compiling a Teaching Transcript to plan and document the help they have provided me. This includes training both in the general approach to teaching and in specific topics, such as designing a course or using film and film editing projects to engage students in class material. The Center also provided me with a class taping, observation, and follow-up evaluation from a teaching consultant. This was a very productive experience and has certainly improved my ability to communicate with students. Certification (pdf).
